Energy Joule Alerts You Of High Prices, Consumption, Weather

Hello, HAL.

joule.jpgThe Energy Joule is about the most sophisticated night light you could have in your home. Not only will it update you on home energy consumption and weather; but it will also glow angry red, passive yellow, or sublime green to let you know the best time of day to save on energy costs. Figuring out when to turn on that washing machine or charge that new electric car just got easier. From the site,

“In addition to the colored lights, the Joule has a digital screen with two bar charts that show 1) the real-time price of energy per kilowatt (the longer the bar, the more expensive the kilowatt). This date comes wirelessly from your energy company. And 2) the amount of energy you’re using in your home right now (the longer the bar, the more energy you’re using). This data comes wirelessly from the energy meter in your home.”

Right now, you might be wondering if your energy meter has been a wireless maverick this entire time and you had no idea. Probably not. The Energy Joule is sadly only available as part of a beta roll-out in and around New York City through Consumer Powerline. After this summer, plans are to push such ambient devices to other markets. We’re looking forward to it; if only to find ourselves anxiously revolving our lives around getting the green light to plug in and save money. Hi the site for more.
