Greetings Friends of ECOtality,
We would like to take this opportunity to wish you happy holidays and keep you updated on some of the exciting developments at ECOtality over the past two months.
On October 16, 2007, ECOtality announced the Company was invited to participate in the Arizona Public Service (APS) Advanced Hydrogasification Project (APH) to further explore Hydrality in large-scale utility power applications. The AHP program is a collaborative project among APS and industry partners, including the DOE National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), to develop an economical process of producing substitute natural gas (SNG) from coal without the release of carbon dioxide, a known greenhouse gas. Specifically aimed at supporting the AHP hydrogasification efforts, the project will conduct testing to evaluate the process kinetics and reactor dynamics of ECOtality’s Hydrality process for large-scale hydrogen production and storage. We are very excited about Hydrality’s potential for large-scale power applications and anticipate exciting technology developments to result from our work in the AHP program. On November 6, 2007, ECOtality completed the acquisition of Electric Transportation Engineering Corporation (eTec), a leader in the research, development and testing of advanced transportation and energy systems with a focus on alternative-fuel, hybrid and electric vehicles and infrastructures. eTec also developed and holds exclusive patent rights to the eTec SuperCharge™ - a battery fast charging system. Specifically engineered for airport ground support equipment, neighborhood electric vehicle operations, and marine and transit applications, the exclusively patented eTec SuperCharge™ is based on advanced algorithms that allow faster charging with less heat generation and longer battery life than any other fast charge system available. The acquisition of eTec, which designed, manufactured and installed public, commercial and residential recharging systems for the GM EV-1, Chrysler EPIC, and Ford Ranger electric vehicle programs, places ECOtality in the leading role for providing fast charging infrastructures for the electric and hybrid electric vehicles markets. On December 11, 2007, ECOtality completed the acquisition of Minit-Charger, the fourth and final acquisition of 2007. The perfect compliment to the eTec Supercharge system, Minit-Charger is a fast battery charging system that produces no harmful emissions and enables a more environmentally-friendly, energy and cost efficient means of recharging forklifts and other mobile material handling equipment. The Minit-Charger system recharges batteries 4 to 6 times faster than conventional chargers, with battery life that is equal to or longer than those using traditional charging methods. With 10 patents filed in the U.S., the Minit-Charger technologies are also well-suited for alternative fuel transportation applications, including plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles and infrastructures. By combining the Minit-Charger line of battery fast chargers for lift trucks and material handling systems with the eTec SuperCharge™ line of battery fast chargers for airport ground support equipment, the acquisition further expands eTec’s fast charging product line and market share in the area of clean electric transportation and infrastructure solutions.
